A Dance with Rogues
A Dance with Rogues

walkthrough[]

Excluding some minor adjustments to get the walkthrough formatted for the wiki, it was taken as is from Walkthrough_A_Dance_with_Rogues_part_one_POI.txt. It could use some internal wiki linkage ([[...]]), and some updates for v1.30.. On the other pages, I've only been linking the first instance of a unique/important word or phrase, but this is a pretty big article, so we may want to do the first instance in each major section, just so people don't have to scroll up to find the link used for Betancuria South, or Vico, or something..

Also, the wiki tracks changes, so I don't think we need to log who's doing what under the History heading. I just wanted something there since I removed that part when pasting the content. Kindof an original credit type thing..

I've tried to remove the extra spacing between points and paragraphs/sections, but it keeps going in for some reason.

I've tried to update the walkthrough and put in some internal wiki-linkage. Feel free to correct what I've done, however, as it was just off the top of my head and I'm not sure how much of it is actually 100% accurate. :P I was pretty vague around Lesson 7 as well, as I didn't quite remember how to get the the castle from the starting point in the wilderness of the top of my head, but I figured having that was better than a completely wrong wrong section about the farmer etc. from the previous version.

Yeah, I saw that.. It was badly needed. Thanks --Superlgn 20:27, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Also, one question. Do we want individual wiki pages for the quests like Dhorn Slayer, Tony the Tiger, Nightingale, Dhorn Love, etc.? I added one for Nightingale and was going to add the others, but then stopped because I wasn't sure if I should or not. Also, should we add Nightingale and Tony the Tiger to the walkthrough? They are "quests," I guess, but they're pretty straightforward and you don't need much guidance for them. Although I guess Nightingale could use some for the last client.

Anywyay. Thanks! The Smiling Knight 19:41, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

It's definitely alot of text.. Some breakdown like Part One Walkthrough Chapter 2 and Part One Walkthrough Chapter 3a would be nice. Chapter 1 lessons could link to individual lesson pages, if those are to be turned into a detailed walkthrough. --Superlgn 20:27, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

After some headache I think it would be better to put all the stuff in wiki also. Waltrough is essentialy technical - go there do that to advance... but we should also write stuff on mood and revelations during quests so IMHO : walktrough should be like a short technical guide which holds links to relevant WIKI pages , who are more elaborate on substance. In the title of quests in walktorough there will be link to similar quest page on wiki (which will not tell step by step what to do and cet but what generaly happens there , what is revealed, what are relevant tips and tricks)ChernyjDyr 21:23, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Mysterious note - mandatory[]

I think waltrough is wrong and mysterious note is mandatory in order to advance to 7th lesson. So it should be taken out of "optional quests" section and be put not sure where exacttly, may be in 7th lesson??? ~~CHD

Yeah, that sounds right. I don't see a better place, so I'll move it to lesson 7. --Superlgn 14:59, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

I will verify that that is correct superlgn, it is mandatory and I mistakenly put it as optional. lesson 7 is the best place for it. Kookoo 13:44, 19 March 2009

Regarding optional ways of doing things[]

I updated lesson 1 that has a lot of optional ways of doing it. I marked those with a numbered lists, or two in fact, to make the optional ways clear. What do you guys think? In any case I think it's helpful to clearly show what are optional ways of doing something. --Moirah 11:48, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Looks ok, kindof repetitive with taking the beggar around the corner.. Maybe in points 3 and 4 you could just start with "Lure him out of sight and" ( kill him | do him a favor ). --Superlgn 14:50, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Bathing with Caron[]

The walkthrough has now: On your way upstairs, you will run into Caron. He will talk to you and take interest in you. In the future you will be able to tell him about your lessons. You will also be able to have a scene with him when you take a bath in your room next to the kitchen. Do that before the lessons, otherwise it won't make sense as he asks you about the conversation you're about to have with Master Nathan. Do you mean to say that one should take the bath now, before doing any of the lessons, or the dialog won't make sense? I think I've always taken the bath after lesson one and feel that it's actually the most natural point of doing so, and I don't recall any continuity problems in the dialogs. I suggest the walkthrough is updated so that the bath is recommended after finishing Lesson 1 to wash off the ash (and Charisma modification). How I recall it, I first talk to Caron on my way to Nathan (and they talk about seeing Nathan and about the evening). Then I do lesson 1 and afterwards take the bath. I can't remember the exact conversation during the bath - whether lesson 1 is talked then or the next time I see him, but this shouldn't be hard to check. --Moirah 11:53, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

I don't remember anything wrong with the conversation when bathing after the first lesson either. I'm not sure what "the conversation you're about to have" means.. about leaving through the window? In your first conversation with Caron, he mentions that Chella told him about it and you say you need to speak with Nathan. Maybe there were some dialog bugs when he was first added in v1.20 and that's where this came from, but it all looks ok to me in 1.30. --Superlgn 14:44, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Walkthrough structure[]

So, are we going to keep the part Part One Walkthrough as the file it's now or should it be divided to several pages? For spoiler avoiding it might serve better to have separate pages (so if one needs help with a particular quest, they don't accidentally read about other quests). I'm going through the lessons now; proofreading, adding links and such (because I have them fresh on my mind having just played them) - or would be if the database wouldn't drop, and would be happy to start splitting it if that's what we decide.

I'm not even sure if the current division of pages is the best possible. We have separately "Part One" and "Part Two" and then we have "Walkthrough", which only has links to "Part One Walkthrough" and "Part Two Walkthrough". Seems a bit redundant to me. Why not link "Part One" directly with its walkthrough?

And if the walkthrough is split to several pages, how should it go? Would all quests have their own pages (seems useful, for linking purposes too) but what would be on the main walkthrough file then? Mostly a list of the quests (deleted from "Part One") along with the bits and pieces that don't fit with any particular quest?

v1.40 update notice[]

Imbox notice
The walkthrough for Part One hasn't yet been updated for v1.40. In addition to some dialog and character adjustments, a number of quests and the layout of a few maps have changed as well. Much of the walkthrough still applies, but there are significant changes toward the end that are not yet documented here. Stop by the Part One project page on the Vault if you need assistance. Please improve the walkthrough and related documentation if you are able.
See the Part One v1.40 changes thread on the Forum for the effort to update the wiki for v1.40.

Keeping it accessible in case we need to use it again. --Superlgn 19:09, April 18, 2010 (UTC)

All right, am I suffering a sudden case of blindness, or the new 1.40 quests (and links to them, like for Bank Rider) haven't been added yet to this page? Shouldn't we? (Or put the banner up again?) ~~ Songlian 14:18, September 18, 2010 (UTC)
Nvm, I updated the walkthrough. ~~ Songlian 09:06, September 20, 2010 (UTC)
I added it to the quests template, but I must have forgotten this. --Superlgn 17:03, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Chapter 4: Back in Betancuria[]

The changes to this chapter in v1.50 make it large enough that it should have it's own article with a detailed walkthrough, perhaps at Back in Betancuria or Back in Betancuria: Captured. Here's the notes I made in my journal as I was going through it (spoilers):

Dhorn HQ Cells - new map? Tarleth's involvement in escape; new item - Slippery Dhorn Key; Terik (priest) dead in cells; new item - Dhorn Key; Arto kills Tarleth when his door is opened, Dhorn Soldier (undercover family member?) helps you escape into 'Passage' (new map); new armor in sarcophagus in passage (behind 44DC door) called 'Armor of the Maiden' - heavy, lawful good only; 'Secret Door' (large boulder), very difficult to reach, get close and click and you're on the other side; stairs up into 'Storage Rooms' (new map, empty?), leads to Castle courtyard; just around the corner in the courtyard are stairs up into the "Betancuria Castle, Guards' Quarters" (new map) which has stairs back down to the Cells, on the other side of the locked 'Device' door; unlock other door (no key required), go down hallway and unlock that door (again, no key), grab equipment from crate in small room; go back into courtyard and look for the hidden door on the 'South Wall' which leads to another 'Passage' (new map), use Pull Chain to open door; Mando and 'Rogue' greet you, explain that they have a dozen (or dozens?) of Dhorn on the payrolll (some trusted, others not), they take you to Nathan who says the 'Bearded Man' (the guy who captured you) sold information about your capture for 10,000 gold coins

Version 2.0 update[]

Is there anyone still playing this gem of an oldie?

With version 2.0 out for NWNEE, most of the walkthrough is wildly incorrect, beginning with changes in maps (almost no location looks the same as in 1.50), to sidequests (some have changed significantly, others have been introduced in 2.0 and have little to no coverage altogether).

Is anyone planning on updating the data?

I could potentially help, but got no experience with the wiki. Not sure how much help I can be. Shinen-san (talk) 14:40, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
