Number of options[]

I think we'll want to try and limit the number of options for a featured poll to around 8 or less so the box isn't too tall. Polls that aren't going to be featured on the index could have as many options as are needed (or as the system allows). --Superlgn 22:57, September 21, 2009 (UTC)

Use of templates[]

I just noticed the poll results for "What's your favorite romance?" were out of sync on the index and the article. When I edited and previewed the article, the results matched the index. I'm not sure why this is happening, if the article version of the poll would have magically come in sync with the index after a certain amount of time, or if it's something we can work around. I changed both polls to use a template (Template:pollname) in hopes that it keeps everything in sync. If it works, we'll want to use this method for any featured polls (or polls on more than one article). --Superlgn 22:57, September 21, 2009 (UTC)

Templates didn't work, so we'll just have to resave the article if we see it's out of sync. --Superlgn 22:17, September 26, 2009 (UTC)

Ideas for future polls[]

I'd like to change out the poll every month or so, so we should make up a list of possibilities for future polls. If we run out of ideas we go through the archives and bring one of the older polls back. Hopefully we can get up to a dozen or so before going through older stuff. We can make a heading for the question with the options below, so each submission could have feedback made to it. I don't think we'd want the poll to get too tall, so maybe try to keep it limited to 4 or 5 options. --Superlgn 18:38, September 20, 2009 (UTC)

How many times have you played the series?[]

  • 1-2 times
  • 3-5 times
  • 6-10 times
  • More than 10
  • I've lost count

--Superlgn 18:38, September 20, 2009 (UTC)

What race is your character?[]

  • Human
  • Elf/Half-Elf
  • Dwarf/Halfling/Gnome
  • Half-Orc
  • Other

--Superlgn 18:38, September 20, 2009 (UTC)

(taken from Songlian's post below) I'd honestly not put the "What race is your character?" one up. The answers will probably be 99% Human anyways. Since Valine clearly stated that you must be Human in order to fully enjoy the game experience, I see no reason to do otherwise. And in a more intimate note, it's gonna make us look bad, because it will appear like we're disrespecting the author's wishes. ~~ Songlian 10:08, September 21, 2009 (UTC)

What class is your character?[]

  • Just a Rogue
  • Rogue/Barbarian
  • Rogue/Bard
  • Rogue/Fighter
  • Rogue/Sorcerer
  • Rogue/Wizard
  • ...
  • Rogue/Other

There could be way too many options for this one, so we may want to double some up like "Rogue/Sorcerer or Wizard" and "Rogue/Fighter or Barbarian"...

--Superlgn 18:38, September 20, 2009 (UTC)

I like this one and if we group some of the similar classes together it might even fit. Only a small adjustment: replace "Just a Rogue" with "Rogue". "Rogue" alone should be sufficient and "just a" makes it look like a lesser thing to play a pure Rogue. Imo. ~~ Songlian 12:52, July 5, 2010 (UTC)
This is the list of classes from Bioware:
  • Barbarian
  • Bard
  • Cleric
  • Druid
  • Fighter
  • Monk
  • Paladin
  • Ranger
  • Rogue
  • Sorcerer
  • Wizard
Which could be grouped together? --Superlgn 03:20, July 6, 2010 (UTC)
Ok, let's see...
Rogue
Rogue & Barbarian/Fighter
Rogue & Sorcerer/Wizard
Rogue & Ranger/Druid
Rogue & Paladin/Cleric
Rogue & Monk
Rogue & Bard
I don't know if Monk and Bard classes can grouped together. What do you think? ~~ Songlian 08:10, July 6, 2010 (UTC)
Looks ok to me, but I'm not really familiar with these different classes. --Superlgn 21:21, July 6, 2010 (UTC)

What do you think of Part One v1.XX?[]

(following the update for part one)

  • Better than 1.30
  • Worse
  • About the same

(and then maybe a footnote to the release history articles of the compared versions)

Related: Part One v1.30, Part One v1.XX

--Superlgn 18:38, September 20, 2009 (UTC)

It could be 2-3+ weeks yet before the new release is out yet (though I hope it's sooner). Should we leave the current poll up until that time and then do this one? Otherwise I was thinking we could do the favorite area poll, either before or after. --Superlgn 22:10, October 6, 2009 (UTC)
We could put it up now, the "Favorite area" one. I'm thinking that it has enough time to register votes - the current one hasn't been up for more than the new one will be anyways, and people still voted. And afterwards, will have to keep the "What do you think" one a little longer, so that people have enough time to download the new version, play it and then vote in a comfortable amount of time. But I wanted to say this sooner, and I always forget, having just 3 options to vote from for the "What do you think" one makes me cringe a little. ~~ Songlian 22:39, October 6, 2009 (UTC)
Well, I don't have any ideas for poll options, so if you or anyone else has suggestions.. --Superlgn 00:27, October 7, 2009 (UTC)

If we keep the poll options only in regards to the previous version, then yeah, there’s not much to ask. But if we look at what Valine via Thirdpress said she will add, we might have better luck. Valine said that the changes will be: 1. New quests 2. Changes to the old quests 3. Changes to the city itself 4. New conversations 5. A surprise or two . So all we have to do now is question how the players feel in regards to these changes, which in return would give us more poll options:

  • Overall better than 1.30
  • Overall worse than 1.30
  • Overall about the same as 1.30
  • I liked the newly added quests
  • I liked the changes to the old quests
  • I liked the newly added conversations
  • I liked the changes to the old conversations
  • I liked the newly added areas
  • I liked the changes to the old areas
  • I liked the surprises
  • There were not enough changes

Of course, we can further tweak these and rearrange them, but I think this covers it. ~~ Songlian 10:49, October 7, 2009 (UTC)

I completed v1.40 tonight and it sounds like others are beginning to finish up too. Do we want to wait a few days / until the end of the week before putting this up? Are we alright with the options? There's kindof two different grouping of questions and I think that's a bit weird for one poll. You could say both "Overall better" and "I enjoyed the new quests the most", but you only get one choice. It's almost as if this is two polls.. We could do two polls and keep them grouped on the main page and the poll article, one with "What did you think of v1.40?" with the better/worse/same options and "If you liked v1.40, what did you enjoy the most?" with the newly added/changed/surprises/not enough changes options. I also think the "I especially liked the ..." are a bit too wordy and the last one could probably be shortened to "There were not enough changes", if we wanted to keep that depending on the wording of the question. --Superlgn 02:07, October 26, 2009 (UTC)

I agree to putting two polls on the main page and showing off all the questions related to this new version. I cut of the "especially" and tweaked some options to better fit the additions. Even so, there are a lot of changes, and in 60% of the dialogues there's at least one line changed or added. It's getting a bit lengthy as it is. Perhaps we should just group them by area/conversations/quests and not mention if there were new or old, but simply if they have been modified in 1.40?

The Poll would then be:

  • I liked the changes to the quests
  • I liked the changes to the conversations
  • I liked the changes to the areas
  • I liked the changes to the characters
  • I liked the surprises
  • There were not enough changes

Looks better? ~~ Songlian 07:05, October 26, 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I like that. I put up the questions at What do you think of Part One v1.40?, let me know what you think. --Superlgn 20:46, October 26, 2009 (UTC)
Looks good. :) I haven't finished it yet, but you have and I know more people who have, so guess it's time to put it up. ~~ Songlian 23:55, October 26, 2009 (UTC)
Alright, it's up. --Superlgn 00:39, October 27, 2009 (UTC)

And in a more intimate note, it's gonna make us look bad, because it will appear like we're disrespecting the author's wishes. Just my honest thoughts on the matter. As for the length of the poll, I don't know how you work your magic i.e. if it’s possible, but I'm thinking you could remove the phrase “this poll was created...and so far x people voted” from the case, also make the galleries thumbnail smaller. I don’t think people are dying to know when the poll was created (hour included) and the galleries pics would be visible enough anyways. We would then have more space for a larger poll. We would benefit from it by adding more poll options, and so we could have more voting systems, such as:

What is your favorite location/area?[]

Not individual areas, but grouped into larger ones. For instance: Betancuria (which includes the Wilderness), Underdark (which includes everything, from Tunnels to Maeralssin), Isle of Prisoners (to include the Isle and the Tomb), etc. ~~ Songlian 10:08, September 21, 2009 (UTC)

I like this one. Maybe:
  • Betancuria
  • Summer Islands/Temple of Hyath
  • Westwood/Abandoned Mine
  • Underdark
  • Lake of Sorrow/Moonville
  • Isle of Prisoners
  • Delberg
--Superlgn 18:36, September 21, 2009 (UTC)
Yup, that sums it up nicely. ~~ Songlian 21:08, September 21, 2009 (UTC)

Which chapter did you enjoyed the most?[]

Again, grouped by (larger) chapters. ~~ Songlian 10:08, September 21, 2009 (UTC)

The problem I see with this one is that we invented the chapters to help organize the wiki, at least for Part Two. I don't remember if Part One ever referred to the Lessons, the investigation, Pia, and the end as chapters or if that was just done in the original .txt walkthrough. --Superlgn 18:36, September 21, 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, you are right here. I don't think the game mentions anything about chapters, but rather only journal entries, among which, yes, some are more important than others. ~~ Songlian 21:08, September 21, 2009 (UTC)
I think the favorite area poll above may cover this just as well. --Superlgn 22:06, September 21, 2009 (UTC)
Which chapter of Part One is your favorite?[]
  • Chapter 1 (Seven Lessons)
  • Chapter 2 (Dhorn Spies, Golden Chalice)
  • Chapter 3 (Pia is Missing)
  • Chapter 4 (Welcome Home, Bank Raider)

Which chapter of Part Two is your favorite?[]

Which chapter of Part Two is your favorite?

  • Chapter 1 (Westwood)
  • Chapter 2 (Black Mountains, Abandoned Mine)
  • Chapter 3 (Underdark)
  • Chapter 4 (Moonville)
  • Chapter 5 (Isle of Prisoners)
  • Chapter 6 (Delberg Castle)
  • Chapter 7 (Conclusion)

Who is your favorite henchman?[]

It doesn’t have to be your love interest, but the guy/gal you most enjoy kicking and looting next to, and who's more fun to be with. For me it would be interesting to see if others make the distinction between the bed mate and the adventure mate by comparing the results of the two polls. ~~ Songlian 10:08, September 21, 2009 (UTC)

I like this one too, but the list is pretty big unless we went with primary companions and skipped some of the minor ones like Jacia and the three friends from Delberg County:
  • Anden Goodmanner
  • Bran
  • Christano Arniman
  • Gemli Stengarks
  • Norah
  • Pia
  • Rizzen Do'Vrinn
  • Vico
--Superlgn 18:36, September 21, 2009 (UTC)
I'm good with that selection. It should be enough. ~~ Songlian 21:08, September 21, 2009 (UTC)

I added Simon to the list. --Superlgn 22:44, January 10, 2010 (UTC)

Which of the specific Rogue Class Skills do you use the most?[]

  • As in: Persuade; Bluff; Move Silently; [...]; all of the above; none, I like to kick ass like a true fighter does, etc.

So on and so forth. ~~ Songlian 10:08, September 21, 2009 (UTC)

I don't know all these offhand, so we'll need someone to come up with a list. --Superlgn 18:36, September 21, 2009 (UTC)
This is what I invest most into: Disable Trap, Hide, Move Silently, Open Lock, Persuade, Pick Pocket. More class skills would be: Bluff, Search, Use Magic Device, Listen. And there must be a few more. ~~ Songlian 21:08, September 21, 2009 (UTC)

What's your favorite weapon type?[]

  • Dagger
  • Short Sword
  • Longsword
  • Greatsword
  • Greataxe
  • Short/Longbow
  • Crossbow
  • Other

The dagger or short sword is probably the preferred weapon for a Rogue, but there's enough interesting longswords and other weapon types. Not sure if all of the bows should be combined into one or if the two current groupings are ok. The question could also be "favorite weapon type/class", in case we ever wanted to single out some individual weapons for a poll. --Superlgn 02:22, September 26, 2009 (UTC)

That was exactly what I was thinking. There are some individual weapons that really are worth putting into a poll. Though there are quite a few of them and we'll have to chose wisely. ~~ 05:36, September 26, 2009 (UTC)
We could also do a favorite armor. There are plenty of good armors in the game, but some that really stick out especially when you get into part two. --Superlgn 15:20, September 26, 2009 (UTC)

What's your favorite weapon?[]

  • Poisoned Short Sword
  • Ice
  • Destroyer
  • Shadowsilk
  • The Nightthief's Claw
  • Knife of Lightning

I can't think of anything else right now. :P --Superlgn 15:20, September 26, 2009 (UTC)

Added a few more. I'll get back to it later. ~~ Songlian 20:45, September 27, 2009 (UTC)

What's your favorite armor type?[]

  • Cloth
  • Leather
  • Chain
  • Plate

--Superlgn 15:20, September 26, 2009 (UTC)

What's your favorite armor?[]

  • Armor of Lloth / Ceremonial Armor of Lloth
  • Assassin's Garb / Elite Assassin's Garb
  • Chainmail of Roses
  • Demon Armor
  • Hyath Chainmail / Leather Armor
  • Princess Amraphenneset's Armor
  • Rogue Links

Could use some more from Part One. I think there's some good armors from the Temple of Hyath. I'll have to go back and check those sometime. --Superlgn

Added two more. I'd also put the Lloth ones into a single line. I'm not sure about if Pickpocket should really be included. It's not much of an armor and there are tons of dresses which raise skills like Persuade. ~~ Songlian 20:45, September 27, 2009 (UTC)
Hatori's Studded Armor isn't much of an armor either, there's far better light armors found in the Temple of Hyath. I removed that and added some of the Hyath stuff and Demon Armor. I also alphabetized the list. --Superlgn 22:00, September 27, 2009 (UTC)

What are you hoping for most in the pending update for Part Two?[]

  • That it leads to Part Three
  • That Simon is worked in somewhere
  • Better development in existing areas (new characters, quests, etc)
  • Existing content is shortened/streamlined and more of the Dhorn Kingdom is added
  • A mostly new module that keeps some characters, areas, and quests
  • A complete rewrite
